That Moment
There comes a moment on this path…not a loud moment, not a dramatic moment…but a moment that is quietly undeniable. A moment when something deep, deep down within you gently whispers “I know there is something more to me than this.”
It’s not about having something more to achieve. It’s not about having something more to fix. It’s about REmembering who you are beneath all the ‘stuff’ you are not.
We spend so much of our lives trying to become someone else. Trying to improve. Trying to heal. And so often, somehow, somewhere just trying to move forward day by day.
But let me ask you something: “What if…”
What if the journey isn’t about becoming something or someone at all?
What if the journey is about REmembering who we were before all the pressure, before all the pain, before all the expectations, before the subtle (and not so subtle) ways we learned to leave ourselves behind?
And what if nothing has actually been lost but is…only covered up. Only silenced. Only biding time.
The Forgetting
You know, we don’t lose ourselves all at once. It happens slowly…slowly, over time. Through those moments of shame, through those moments of blame, through feeling too much… or not enough, through learning that it is safer to adapt and fit in rather than to fully be ourselves.
We began to shape ourselves in the world around us. We began to shape ourselves to be accepted. We silenced parts of who we were. We pushed forward. We listened. We tried so hard. We disconnected from ourselves.
And gradually, over time, we forgot what it felt like to be whole within ourselves. We forgot who we truly are beneath it all. We forgot our own sovereignty.
The REmembrance
Yet everything is not lost. Something always remains…deep inside of us. Whether it’s a thread. A feeling. A thought. Or whether it’s that doubt. That experience. That quiet knowing within us that can never be fully silenced.
REmembrance isn’t something you can force. It’s something that gently returns when you begin to…
*consciously breathe
*slow down…
*listen to your body…
*feel safe enough to be with yourself once again.
And it can arrive in the tiniest, most unexpected moments in…
- a deep breath where you begin to soften
- a walk in nature where you feel present and part of all its beauty
- a moment where you choose not to abandon yourself
And suddenly, you are not searching outside of yourself anymore. You are defining your own space. You are REturning home. You are REmembering who you are.
“We heal when we can be with what we feel.” Hillary L. McBride
The Body Always Remembers
Your mind may question everything. Your thoughts may doubt over and over again. But your body…your body never forgets. It REmembers. Always.
It REmembers what…
*safety feels like.
*truth feels like.
*it’s like to simply be you.
Even if it has been buried beneath layers and layers of protection. Even if it has been quiet for a long time…it is still there. Just waiting patiently. It doesn’t ask you to rush. It doesn’t ask you to fix anything. It only asks you to come back…in the smallest, most honest of ways.
This is why the journey back home to yourself is not something you think your way through — it’s something you feel your way into. Slowly. Gently. Honestly.
Through…
*moments of pause…
*choosing not to abandon yourself…
*being aware of what feels safe… and what doesn’t.
Allowing your body to lead, instead of just pushing it more and more to keep up.
If this feels familiar, you may also recognise the pattern of moving between motivation and exhaustion — something I explored more deeply in a previous reflection on the nervous system and the push–crash cycle. 👉 [You can read it here]
And as you begin to listen…really listen, you may notice something very subtle at first. A softening, a steadiness, a quiet sense of being with yourself once again. Not perfectly. Not all at once. But enough to feel and acknowledge that “I am here.”
And in that moment, you are no longer searching. You are REmembering.
A Different Way Forward
But…what if you don’t need to become a better version of yourself?
What if you only need to…
- soften all the pressure you continuously put on yourself
- listen a little more deeply to those gentle whispers within you
- allow yourself to come back home to you
Not in a perfect way. Not all at once. But gently…piece…by piece…by piece.
In your own time. In your own way. In your own space.
As you listen more deeply to your own wisdom, feel the truth in your own body and you begin to open up to the compassion in your own heart.
A Gentle REmembrance
Know this, lovely one…You’re not lost, you haven’t gone too far, and you don’t need fixing.
There is nothing you need to become. Nothing you need to prove. Nothing you need to force into place. There is only this quiet REturning…this soft unfolding…this REmembering of who you have always been beneath it all.
And you don’t have to rush it. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to do it perfectly. You only have to be willing to come back home to yourself…in the smallest moments…in the quietest ways… again and again and again.
And perhaps, as you sit here now…reading these words…you can feel it. Not as a big shift. Not as something dramatic. But as something gentle…something steady…something true. A soft knowing that “I am still here.”
And maybe…you were never as far away from yourself as you once believed – just learning in your own time how to REturn back home to yourself.
You just need to REmember who you are beneath all the layers of what you are not.
With BIG Love
