Earth – Hearth – Heart
Recently, while I was writing and reflecting on The REmembrance Circle, I suddenly saw three words that came together in a way that stopped me in my tracks – Earth – Hearth – Heart. Now just look at those letters and the spelling of each of the three words!
Although, I’d seen the words Earth – Hearth – Heart together many times before, each with their own unique meaning, yet all connected together — this time they seemed to describe so perfectly, the journey I have been living—and the journey and support that I want to give to others.
You know, sometimes, the most meaningful discoveries arrive quietly, gently, just out of nowhere. They aren’t found in books, or courses, or classrooms. They don’t come because we force ourselves to think harder or search further. They just simply appear when we are least expecting them.
Let’s have a look at these words Earth • Hearth • Heart together….
🌍 Earth – REturning to Our Roots
Everything begins with the Earth. Not only the earth beneath our feet, not only our physical grounding, but also the place where we become grounded within ourselves. When life feels so overwhelming, our minds instantly just race ahead of us while our bodies remain tense, exhausted, or disconnected. We try to think our way back to stability, peace, calmness, when what we really need is to physically slow down.
- To feel our feet firmly on the ground.
- To breathe consciously.
- To notice what is happening inside of us.
For me, many of these moments happen daily while I walk through the woods and countryside with my beloved dog Herki, or sit in my garden under the beautiful big birch tree. You know, trees ask nothing of us, yet they are constantly teaching us. They simply stand, deeply rooted, reminding us that strength doesn’t come from constantly reaching upwards or outwards. It comes from growing strong roots.
The Earth gently steadies us.
🔥 Hearth – A Place to Gather
Once we feel the ground beneath our feet, we begin to look for somewhere to belong.
For centuries, the hearth was the heart of the home. The fire was lit. The people gathered. Tea was poured. Stories were shared. Silence was welcomed.
No one came to the hearth because they had everything figured out. They came for the warmth, the connection, the nourishment. They came because they were welcomed, and they left rested, grounded, recharged. That is the feeling I want to create in The REmembrance Circle. Not just another place where people feel the pressure to perform, improve, or keep up. But a place where you can just simply arrive. Somewhere you can breathe. Somewhere you can be gently held while REmembering yourself.
The Hearth welcomes us.
❤️ Heart – REmembering Who We Are
Perhaps the longest and most challenging journey any of us make in life is the journey from our head down to our heart. We spend so many years believing we need to be someone different before we can be accepted. Before we are worthy. Before we are enough.
We work on ourselves. We try to fix ourselves. We analyse ourselves. Yet somewhere along the way we stop listening to ourselves.
Over the years, I’ve come to believe that the journey back home is not about becoming someone else. It is about REturning to who we have always been beneath all the fears, the shame, the overwhelm, the expectations, and all the roles we’ve taken on throughout our lives.
The heart quietly REmembers what the mind forgets. It REmembers our kindness. Our truth. Our worth. Our belonging. It REmembers that we are never truly lost. It REmembers who we truly are underneath all that we are not.
The Heart REmembers us.
The Journey Home
Looking back, I’ve realised that the three words – Earth – Hearth – Heart – have quietly become the foundation of everything I now teach.
- The earth REminds us to be grounded.
- The hearth REminds us that we don’t have to walk alone.
- The heart REminds us who we truly are.
Perhaps this is what REmembrance really is. Not about searching for something that is outside of ourselves. Not about becoming someone new. But gently REturning, again and again, to that place within us that has been waiting so patiently all along.
So, wherever you find yourself today, I hope you’ll remember this…
May the Earth steady you.
May the Hearth welcome you.
May the Heart remember you.
And may you discover, in your own gentle way and in your own perfect time, that home has never been somewhere else. It has always been inside of you.
“The Earth steadies us. The Hearth welcomes us. The Heart REmembers us.”
